📝 How to use this insulation calculator

  1. Choose your area shape — rectangle, circle, or triangle. Each has the right input fields for the shape.
  2. Select measurement units — feet & inches for US projects, meters & centimeters for metric.
  3. Enter dimensions — length and width (rectangle); diameter (circle); base and height (triangle).
  4. Select application area — attic, wall, floor, or basement. This sets the recommended R-value.
  5. Pick insulation material — fiberglass batts, blown-in cellulose, spray foam, or rigid board. Each has a different R-value per inch.
  6. Set your target R-value — the calculator uses your application area's default, but you can override it for your climate zone.
  7. Click Calculate — see required thickness, coverage, bags, batts, board feet, and installed vs. DIY cost comparison.
