📌 5 Snow Day Tips
- ✓ Check at 5:30am, not the night before. Superintendents usually decide between 5:00-6:00am. The 6pm news is a coin flip.
- ✓ Ice beats snow for closures. A 2" ice storm closes more schools than a 6" dry snowstorm. Ice = no safe bus stops.
- ✓ Timing matters as much as totals. 4" overnight before bus routes is way riskier than 4" predicted to land at 2pm.
- ✓ Wind chill closes schools. -25°F wind chill cancels school even with no snow. Buses won't start, frostbite in 10 min at bus stops.
- ✓ Watch the local Facebook group. Parents post the cancellation texts 2-3 minutes before the robocall goes out.
Disclaimer: This calculator uses historical patterns from thousands of school closing decisions across snow-belt, average, and sun-belt districts. Actual closings depend on your specific superintendent, bus contractor, and road treatment plan. Treat this as a directional indicator, not a guarantee.
